Sam is a clinical doctor interested in using data to improve population health. He works on the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases and evaluating risk models for targeted disease prevention.

He graduated from the University of Galway (MB BCh BAO) in 2019, completed an MSc in Health Data Analytics & Machine Learning at Imperial College London in 2023 and is currently a PhD candidate with the Faculty of Population Health Sciences at UCL.

He is funded by Health Data Research UK to investigate how commonly used risk prediction tools for cardiovascular disease can be repurposed to estimate risks of other conditions, such as cancer, cardiometabolic disease and dementia. He was also awarded funding from the Berkeley Fellowship to develop AI risk prediction models using electrocardiogram (ECG) data at Amsterdam University Medical Centre (AUMC). He co-leads a team that supports the use of shared data resources at UCL and AUMC for external validation studies.
