Philippa Garbutt

Philippa Garbutt

PhD Student

University College London (UCL)

Philippa has a background in Medical Sciences. Her research focuses on cardiac amyloidosis (CA) and involves a multi-centre collaboration between the National Amyloidosis Centre, Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging, and Institute of Cardiovascular Science.

Her interdisciplinary research integrates machine learning, proteomics, and multimodal cardiovascular imaging to improve the diagnosis and understanding of CA. This includes the development of ML-driven approaches for amyloid diagnosis using mass spectrometry proteomics, alongside in vivo research to characterise CA disease progression and underlying molecular mechanisms.

She is a PhD student at University College London and funded by the British Heart Foundation. She was awarded the Bogue Fellowship to undertake a research placement at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she will collaborate with the Ozcan Research Group on AI-driven computational imaging approaches for histopathological amyloid diagnosis.
